Update to the Sprint discount policy   |   0 Comments

By evp on 01-27-2012 09:18 PM

Beginning 2/1/12 the employee discount will only apply to the primary lines on share plans. In the past the discount was applied on secondary lines for Family and Business Share plans, but soon only the primary line will receive the service discount. While this may come as a shock for Sprint users this new policy change falls in line with the other carriers. You can read more directly from the carrier at Sprint Invoice.

For more clients this will not make much of an impact your the monthly bill and Sprint is typically the low cost leader for messaging and data plans. The link also gives a handy tool to compare the rate plans and value to other major carriers.

Laptops not getting as much internet lovin’ as they used to   |   0 Comments

By brian on 01-26-2012 03:49 PM

What kind of device do most consumers use to satisfy their internet access needs? If laptops are what you have in mind, then you might actually be wrong. According to a recent study conducted by Google, the number of people with an internet-capable mobile device has surpassed that of desktop or laptop computer owners.

The study, whose primary goal was to collect data about smartphone and feature phone ownership, was conducted in five major markets, namely the U.S. France, Germany, the U.K., and Japan. It revealed that in the U.S., 78 percent of internet users access the web form their handset whereas 68 percent use a desktop or a laptop computer for that purpose. Some of the respondents admit that they regularly surf the web using both types of devices. Tablets were not part of the study as only a total of 13 percent of the people that participated own one.
That users are starting to lean towards smartphones whenever they need internet access should not come as that much of a surprise. With each passing month, smartphones are getting more and more powerful, and today’s cutting-edge models are well capable of doing most of the tasks that one would usually perform on a desktop or a laptop computer – surfing the web, accessing social networks, watching HD video, and much, much more. At the same time, the advancement of wireless networks has brought true broadband speeds to our mobile devices, with the latest LTE smartphones well capable of reaching real life data transfer rates between 10 and 20 megabits per second.

How many of you are starting to feel that they use their laptops less and less nowadays? Feel free to share your thoughts with us in the comments below.

Hiring for a new Relationship Manager/Inside Sales position   |   0 Comments

By evp on 01-18-2012 08:32 PM

RGC is growing and we need some A players to add to our already dynamic team.  Know of anyone that would be a good fit? Have them send their resume to careers@myrcg.com

Job Openings at RCG- Relationship Manager/Inside Sales

RCG is looking for someone to assist in managing our existing client base (which is 20,000 strong) and help breathe additional life into them. Learn what drives these companies and find new ways we can work together, basically make some new friends.

If you are…

… Then you may be the right person; we only want a rock star grower so don’t apply if you are even a little weak.

So what will you do all day?

The Relationship Manager will be the person that digs into the current client base and works to create deep meaningful relationships with RCG clients. This does not mean taking clients out to lunch every day, but more looking for new life in an account that others may have missed. You will spend about 70% of your time inside our beautiful office reaching out to clients and about 30% of your time visiting them to discover their needs. You won’t be chained to your desk so we ask that you are diligent with updating clients in RQ (our Client Management Software).

The extra stuff:

Since you will be spending some time on the phone we would like to see some previous calling experience to more than just your mother. As we all know when you leave a voicemail most of times you won’t get a call back, so follow up skills are a must. Also RCG has a lot to offer in the telecom world and a telecom background is preferred and will make your life easier too. Wireless or Wireline –we’re not picky.

The stuff you are really reading this for:

What is SOPA/PIPA and Why the Web is Going Dark on January 18, 2012   |   0 Comments

By brian on 01-18-2012 02:33 PM

You may not be too much into technology. You probably don’t go to Mashable and Huffington Post Tech every day. But that doesn’t get you out of what may actually happen if the proposed Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) turns into a law. I know, many people give it a go because it sounds so innocent. A bill to stop online piracy. This sounds so innocent that you don’t really understand the affect of it immediately.

There’s a reason why big sites like Facebook, WordPress, Google, AOL, Twitter, eBay and more are protesting the proposed SOPA/PIPA bill while numerous other sites including reddit, Boing Boing, and our very good friend Wikipedia is going dark on January 18, 2012. Check out a list of websites that are supporting the strike in protest of SOPA. The blackout, also known as strike, has some reasons that not only affect their business but also affect us — the end Internet users. Try to look up something on Wikipedia’s English version on January 18 and you’ll suddenly discover what it would be like if SOPA turns into a law.

Device Highlight: Kyocera DuraMax   |   0 Comments

By evp on 01-11-2012 05:21 PM

Yesterday we had our Tuesday Training with Sean Savery from Kyocera and I have to say it was one of the most interesting trainings. Sean told us all about the latest and greatest devices from Kyocera with a focus on the DuraMax pictured below. He literally took this phone and slammed it on the ground and began stomping on the device, then picked it up, hammered it on the marble table and followed that up with putting the phone in a bowl of water.  In this industry to see a lot of people abuse their phone and I’ve seen more than my fair share of cracked screens and waterlogged phones. The DuraMax took all of this and still worked good as new. We even called the phone while it was in the bowl of water and talked on speakerphone- AMAZING. This phone really impressed me and I could see this being very handy for people that are on job sites and rough on their phone.

Currently the DuraMax is $69.99 for new service and upgrades and worth every penny. Check out this and others phones at your EVP private portal.

So, What exactly is this ‘LTE’ I keep hearing about?   |   0 Comments

By brian on 01-11-2012 03:53 PM

We’ll all be hearing a lot about it over the next few years, so here’s a brief run down of LTE and what it means for you…

Verizon Wireless, in its advertisements, will tell you that it is the fastest, most advanced network. AT&T will say it is the next generation of wireless technology. But that doesn’t say much, now does it? To put it simply, LTE is not just the next generation of wireless technology. LTE is an ongoing, living standard. LTE is a standard that will continuously improve over time. Many expect LTE to be the standard for cellular networks for at least the next decade, possibly even beyond!

LTE stands for Long Term Evolution. Its full name is 3GPP Long Term Evolution for the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System, or 3GPP UMTS LTE for short. Most refer to the standard as UMTS LTE or just plain LTE. While UMTS LTE is the more correct name, it will be called LTE for the remainder of this article for brevity.

But that doesn’t tell us what LTE actually is. LTE is what the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (the group responsible for standardizing and improving the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System, or UMTS) designates as their next step. UMTS is the group of standards that define 3G for GSM networks across the world, including AT&T and T-Mobile’s 3G networks. For those who use CDMA2000 (subscribers of Verizon, Sprint, etc.), then LTE is pretty much the replacement for your mediocre 3G network.

Sprint has plans to launch LTE in select cities across the US in early 2012. Stay tuned for more information.

LTE is a very good, easily deployable network technology, offering high speeds and low latencies over long distances. For example, Verizon LTE in Dallas was rated with an average download speed of 15.75Mbps and an average upload speed of 1.49Mbps. Verizon’s 3G service was rated with an average download speed of 1.09Mbps and an average upload speed of 0.67Mbps. Its LTE service beat its competitors’ high speed service by a wide margin. Similar ratings followed in other cities as well. Unfortunately, AT&T’s LTE service is too new to take accurate measurements of. When the AT&T LTE network is more loaded with subscribers, then more accurate readings can be taken. Sprint has plans to launch LTE in select cities across the US in early 2012. So, stay tuned for more information.

Over 400,000 apps in the Android Market – and counting!   |   0 Comments

By brian on 01-04-2012 02:46 PM

The Android Market has reached a new milestone and is creeping closer towards the iOS app store according to the website Distimo which says there are now over 400,000 applications that can be downloaded now with two-thirds of them being free for the customer.

Crossing the 400,000 app mark is very impressive considering that it was just this past August when the Market hit the 300,000 plateau. This can be attributed to the fact that there are more than 100,000 developers making apps for Android.

Check out the chart below that compares the growth between iOS and the Android Market. While it is clear that iOS was faster out of the gate, both platforms hit the 400,000 threshold at around the same time. The rapid pace in which the Android Market is growing is a testament to the platforms increasing popularity.

At the rate that the Android Market is growing it is not hard to think that they will hit the 500,000 app mark sometime in the next few months. Passing iOS in terms of available apps is certainly not out of the question somewhere down the line.

According to Distimo, there are now over 400,000 apps in the Android Market
