Facebook today made version 1.5 of its instant messaging application available to the Android, BlackBerry, and iOS platforms. The new version adds more presence features, such as the ability to see who’s online, who’s mobile, and when the other person is typing. It’s also easier to send messages to favorite contacts. Facebook also added support for 22 new languages for Android, and 12 new languages for iPhone. The application is free to download from each platforms respective application store.

While we have always been a huge supporter of all products RIM (Research in Motion) this article does have a valid point. The BlackBerry PlayBook didn’t quite live up to all the hype and has recently been surpassed by its competitors. When it was first rumored to come out we had clients waiting to be the first ones to get their hands on it, but when the tablet finally launched the operating system didn’t have the luster that we’d hoped for.
“On the PlayBook tablet, Wedge Partners analyst Brian Blair believes that “Last quarter RIM talked about shipping 500,000 units but did not speak of sell-through for obvious reasons,” the analyst wrote in a note to investors on Wednesday. “Channel fill could turn up another decent shipment number this year in the 500,000 – 700,000 unit range but we believe sell-through has been weak enough that that number will trend down over the year and RIM will likely send the PlayBook into the same graveyard as the HP TouchPad.”
BlackBerry is still a strong contender in the wireless world and still a favorite among individuals and companies alike. Maybe it’s best to stick to what your good at.
