Sierra Wireless 4G LTE Tri-Fi Hotspot – coming May 18   |   0 Comments

Sprint announced a pretty interesting device today – the Sierra Wireless 4G LTE Tri-Fi Hotspot – which, as the name suggests, supports 4G LTE, WiMAX and 3G.

While Sprint’s LTE network is not expected until mid-year in select markets, you can hook up to the existing WiMAX network, or use plain old 3G speeds with the Tri-Fi Hotspot, while waiting.

The gizmo is powered by a 3600mAh battery, providing your devices with up to 8 hours of Wi-Fi , and will be available May 18 for $99.99, after a $50 mail-in rebate with a two year contract, and plans starting from $34.99 a month for 3GB of data, $49.99 for 6GB of data or $79.99 for 12GB.

Update to the Sprint discount policy   |   0 Comments

Beginning 2/1/12 the employee discount will only apply to the primary lines on share plans. In the past the discount was applied on secondary lines for Family and Business Share plans, but soon only the primary line will receive the service discount. While this may come as a shock for Sprint users this new policy change falls in line with the other carriers. You can read more directly from the carrier at Sprint Invoice.

For more clients this will not make much of an impact your the monthly bill and Sprint is typically the low cost leader for messaging and data plans. The link also gives a handy tool to compare the rate plans and value to other major carriers.

Whats your data usage?   |   0 Comments

I feel like phone companies are in constant battle over who has the newest phone, the lowest price, the fastest network or the best tagline. For myself the one commercial that continues to spark my interest is Sprint’s unlimited network for smartphones.

My friends are on a variety of networks and I constantly hear them asking about Wi-Fi hotspots. They use the Wi-Fi network for data so that the carriers network isn’t used and they don’t go over their data cap. Seems like a lot of work to me and I’m not sure that I have ever used the Wi-Fi button on my EVO. Like a lot people I have no clue how much data I use on a monthly basis. 2GB? 10BG? I check email and Facebook, use the navigation a good bit and an occasionally a You Tube video but what does that add up to?  I don’t feel like a heavy user, but I was still unsure just what I would need on another carrier.

Sprint created this fun and handy little calculator that allows you to see your estimated usage based on your daily/weekly/ monthly activity. As expected I’m around 2.5GB, but it was neat to see what factors really consume the network. See for yourself: How much data do you use?
